The “who” here isn’t important—and no matter what, do not give a specific name. Rather, the interviewer wants to know how you managed to work with this person despite the difficulty. After all, if you worked through a challenging work relationship in the past, you can do it again. Don’t be petty and be sure to end on a positive note.
We’re not saying this to scare you. Instead, it should inspire and encourage you. With the right preparation and mindset, you’ll be able to look back on your interview and know it helped you land your dream job.
While academic knowledge and quirky mental alertness are the key components that form basic tenets of an IAS officer, honesty and integrity are also equally important. This question is generally posed by the IAS interview panel to not only understand your strengths and weaknesses but also to assess how honest you are to them. Aspirants should keep in mind that the IAS interview panel consists of subject matter experts, who have vast experience. In short, cheating them by giving vague or confusing answers is not going to serve you well. Thus, try to be honest and list out your strengths and weaknesses to the best of your understanding and back them up with logical explanations and examples.
You’ll want to answer this open-ended interview question with a two-pronged approach: First, you’ll want to highlight the attributes or experiences that make you unique. Second, you’ll want to show how that uniqueness will add value for the company.
Learning how to pass a coding interview reminds me of when, in high school I studied at the last minute to pass a science exam. I passed but I couldn’t tell you anything about the course beyond the first few months. It didn’t help me gain an understanding of the subject, it gave me enough surface level knowledge to answer questions in the exam. That’s it. Services offering to teach you how to ace the interview are missing the point but are only part of the problem. Companies are responsible for setting expectations. Testing applicants in this arbitrary manner is not a good method to identify skill.The problem with coding interviewsA programmer learns a broad range of topics when graduating from a traditional computer science or software engineering programme. The same topics that seem to come up in coding interviews. So, as an interviewer, if an applicant can answer questions related to O(n) notation or navigating a binary search tree comfortably, they have some idea of what they are talking about. It’s probable they have the skills to back it up. This isn’t always the case but it should be a good indication. If you’re lacking experience and looking to get a job as a developer but you’re studying to pass the interview, it seems like an attempt to cheat the system.
