Distance learning, also called distance education, e-learning, and online learning, form of education in which the main elements include physical separation of teachers and students during instruction and the use of various technologies to facilitate student-teacher and student-student communication. Distance learning traditionally has focused on nontraditional students, such as full-time workers, military personnel, and nonresidents or individuals in remote regions who are unable to attend classroom lectures.
Pace Your Work → Take your time! Now that your courses and classwork are online, it may seem easy to rush through work. However, rushing this work will really just hurt you in the long run. Remember that each class builds up to the next class, so take your time with your work! Complete work like you would with in-person classes.
Create a quick and simple routine for your studies to help you get focused and get more done. Check out these posts on the first and last steps to great study sessions. Clear your desk, get some snacks, put on some instrumental music and get rid of distractions. It’s not always possible to study without distractions but there are things you can do. Turn off your mobile phone, put it on airplane mode or move it away. Keep a procrastination list of your distractions/random thoughts and stay away from the Internet. Download my study planner to help you stay focused and get more done with your precious study time.

Fortunately, in this digital age, most schools are utilizing online learning portals, and there are thousands of other resources to help with the academic part. But successful teaching and meaningful learning requires so much more than sitting a student in front of a screen. Here are some ways to set yourself and your kids up for successful home learning:
Mornings are proven to be the most effective window of learning time for our littles. They are well rested, focused, and ready to explore. Start off your day of learning by enjoying the fresh, crisp morning air. Nature walks are a great way to relax and get exercise, all while enjoying quality time with your kids. Don’t forget to take Molly of Denali with you on your outdoor adventure! The Molly of Denali Field Guide is a great printable resource that can help your little explorer identify and document the birds in their neighborhood. This field guide includes infographics on 4 different species of birds, as well as space for your child to add the different birds they find while on their adventure. They can analyze the physical features of the birds they see, compare and contrast the different species and observe their behaviors

You may also wish to include age-appropriate information about COVID-19 in your lessons. Information helps reassure children’s concerns; “You’re fine” and “That’s not something you need to worry about,” will not. Children know life is different, may not understand why, and will make up their own wonky (and often scary) explanations for things you don’t provide basic facts about.
Your learning will be disguised as an expedition, full of adventure! Want to take it a step further? In true Molly fashion, bring along a device and allow your little explorer to create a vlog of their adventure… just like Molly! The learning doesn’t have to stop there. Bring back your collected data and use your observations to research the names of the birds you found. You will quickly find learning comes naturally and makes a way for itself. The possibilities are endless!
