The government has clarified that there is no move to reduce superannuation age of employees
Rumours were floating in social media that the govt has given clearance for reducing superannuation age As per the social media, the DoPT has finalized proposals for implementation of 33 years of service or 60 years age, whichever is early, for retirement on superannuation for all government employees and that the file has been sent to the Finance Ministry for implementation with effect from April 1, 2020.
A proposal to lower the retirement age of Central government employees is in the works. The idea is to retire employees who have completed 33 years of service or on reaching 60 years of age, whichever is earlier.
Suggested by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), the proposal is currently with the Department of Expenditure, which is looking into its financial implications, sources said.
At present, the retirement age in most of the services is 60 years, though it is 65 for professors in all Central universities as also for Central government doctors.

Through several sources, the information is being circulated that the Government has been considering revision of the extant policy on retirement and bringing new rules with stipulation that those Central Government employees who have put in 33 years service or attained the age of 60 years, whichever is earlier, shall retire on superannuation.
According to the sources it is learnt that the DoP&T has sent proposal to MoF for consideration for the purpose of bringing new rule from 01/04/2020.
Since the proposal of the DoP&T is likely to affect existing Central Government employees, therefore, consultations are required to be ensured with the JCW/Staff Side as the service condition of the existing staff may get affected.
